Independent electrical retailers will have a unique opportunity to learn about the future of sustainable appliances at an upcoming industry conference. AMDEA (the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances) is hosting "The Roadmap to a Sustainable Appliance Future" - the only dedicated appliance sector conference in the calendar.
Paul Hide, AMDEA CEO, explained the event's significance: "We've refreshed the format this year to better accommodate our delegates. The discussions always generate fresh perspectives on how our industry can contribute to both consumer needs and governmental sustainability targets."
The event will feature renowned tech journalist Maggie Philbin OBE as chair, leading two panel debates with speakers from across the industry spectrum. Panel members will include representatives from manufacturing, trade associations, testing laboratories, repair specialists, academia, consumer organisations and accessibility experts.
Taking place on 1 May 2025 at City, St George's University of London, the conference will begin at 12.30pm, giving attendees time to explore the university's cutting-edge AV/VR Suite and Product and Partner Showcase. The programme will address crucial topics including the appliance industry's role in supporting the circular economy and how emerging technologies can enable greater sustainability.
Environmental campaigner Jonathon Porritt CBE, who has championed sustainability issues for three decades, will deliver the keynote address. A complimentary networking reception will follow the main programme, providing delegates with valuable opportunities to connect with manufacturers, government representatives, consumer organisations, and other industry stakeholders.
Jeff Moody, Director of Retra, highlighted the value of the event for independent retailers: "This conference presents a vital opportunity for our members to understand where the industry is heading. With sustainability now a priority for consumers, independent electrical retailers need to stay informed about upcoming changes and innovations. The networking potential alone makes this an unmissable event for forward-thinking businesses in our sector."
