Retra member Hughes Electrical has appointed Jack Phelps as director of retail.

He first joined the company 17 years ago as a Christmas temp.

Since starting in Colchester, he has held many positions including store manager in Haverhill, Cambridge, and Lowestoft, while he was also responsible for the integration of the Rayleigh branch into the company after its acquisition. Before this latest appointment, Mr Phelps was an area manager.

In his new role, he will be responsible for the retail division, which has stores across seven counties in England.

“I am thrilled with my appointment and could have never dreamed when I started as a temp that I would end up as a company director,” he said.

“It has been a very challenging two years for the company, as we have had to respond to the pandemic, which has changed the ways customers choose to buy goods from us. We have four strong legs to our business; internet, trade, rental and retail, and we will continue to invest in all of them.”

He added: “My challenge now is to make sure Hughes continues to lead the market in offering our customers the best experience when they visit one of our stores.”
